Can I share my stored tokens between all merchant accounts?

When you create tokens for recurring payments, they are stored at the merchant account level, meaning a token created under MerchantAccountA cannot be used on MerchantAccountB. This ensures isolation and control over token usage.

However, if your use case requires tokens to be accessible across multiple merchant accounts, you can enable a configuration-based feature called Token Groups.

Token Groups

Token Groups allow shopper tokens (i.e., recurringDetailReference / storedPaymentMethodId) to be shared between merchant accounts that are part of the same group. Once a group is set up:

  • All tokens from the included merchant accounts are immediately accessible within the group.
  • You can edit the group configuration: for example, by adding or removing merchant accounts.
  • Only merchant accounts within the same data region can share tokens.
  • Each merchant account can belong to only one token group.

Important Considerations

Before creating or editing a Token Group, the following must be reviewed to avoid tokenization or payment processing issues:

  • Use unique shopper references across all merchant accounts. This is a requirement, also outlined in our public documentation.
  • Ensure all participating merchant accounts store tokens in the same data region.
  • Remember that a merchant account can only belong to one group at a time.

If you'd like to enable or modify a token group, please submit a request to Support, confirming that the above conditions have been reviewed.
