What are the key timelines and milestones ?
In April 2026, PCI PTS 6 will replace PCI PTS 5 with updated security standards. Following are some key timelines and milestones you should be aware of.
Feature freeze (Aug 2025 onwards)
Firmware version 1.120, releasing in August 2025, will be the last major update in the Engage lineup.
No new features or payment methods will be added to terminals after August 2025.
Bug fixes, security, and compliance updates will continue.
Businesses can order PCI PTS 5 devices until April 30, 2026.
PCI PTS 5 expiry: End of sales (April 30, 2026)
Adyen will stop selling PCI PTS 5 devices.
Platforms must stop selling to sub-merchants.
Existing devices will remain operational.
Replacements are allowed if stock is available.
Bug fixes, security, and compliance updates will continue.
Software support ends (April 2029)
Active devices will remain operational.
Bug fixes will stop. Only security and compliance patches can be provided at Adyen’s discretion.
Final retirement (TBD)
No mandatory retirement date has been decided yet.
Adyen will provide a three-year notice before setting a retirement date.
Businesses using Adyen’s P2PE (Point-to-Point Encryption) compliance solution must replace PCI PTS 5 devices by April 30, 2031 and upgrade to PCI PTS 6 (or higher).
