How to accept payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone?

With Tap to Pay on iPhone you can accept all types of in-person, contactless payments on your iPhone — from physical debit and credit cards to Apple Pay and other digital wallets. No extra terminals or hardware needed.

Accept payments with digital wallets (smartphone or smartwatch)

1. Scan Item or manually type in charge
2. Click “Charge [xx]”
3. Select Tap to Pay on iPhone
4. Present your iPhone to customer 
5. Your customer holds their device at the top of your iPhone over the contactless symbol 
6. Only once the approved green checkmark appears, the payment is complete

Accept payments with a contactless card

1. Scan Item or manually type in charge
2. Click “Charge [xx]”
3. Select Tap to Pay on iPhone
4. Present your iPhone to customer 
5. Your customer holds their card horizontally at the top of your iPhone over the contactless symbol
6. Only once the approved green checkmark appears, the payment is complete

Note: Only cards with the contactless symbol will be able to pay with Tap to Pay on iPhone.

Tip: For best results, ensure card is held horizontally on top of the contactless symbol on your iPhone

Accept payments with PIN entry

You can use Tap to Pay on iPhone to accept contactless payments that require customers to securely enter their PIN to confirm a payment.

The PIN entry screen is automatically prompted based on the customer’s card, the transaction amount and the specific merchant configuration.

If PIN is triggered after customer presents card:

1. The customer enters their PIN and taps the green tick to submit
2. Only once approved green check mark appears, the payment is complete
