How do MOTO payments work?

MOTO payments

A Mail Order/Telephone Order (MOTO) payment is a card-not-present transactionwhere the customer provides you with their order and payment details by regular mail (not email), fax, or telephone.

Note: MOTO payments are insecure. There’s no liability shift and you’re fully liable for fraud chargebacks related to MOTO payments.

Note: MOTO payments aren’t the same as manual key entry (MKE) and shouldn’t be used for the same purpose. MOTO is a card-not-present present payment while MKE is a card present payment that is used when the payment terminal fails to obtain the card details from the card's chip or magnetic stripe.
