How can I use a custom risk rule to route transactions to Dynamic 3DS?

Create a rule

To influence the authentication flow of a transaction, create a custom rule using the ‘Check for 3DS’ action.

Navigate to your risk profile via Revenue & risk > Risk Profiles and then click on ‘Create new rule’.

You then have the option to specify the conditions that the transaction needs to meet in order for the rule to be triggered. After deciding on the conditions, click on ‘Save rule’. In the example below, we are creating the example of a gift card purchase:

After creating the custom risk rule, the final step is to link it to a Dynamic 3DS rule. This gives you the option to influence the authentication flow that the transaction takes.

Select the merchant account that the risk profile is assigned to and navigate to Revenue & risk > Dynamic 3D Secure > Create new rule.

Give the Dynamic 3DS rule an appropriate name and select the ‘Check for 3DS’ custom rule from the risk check drop down menu:

Finally, decide on whether you want to ‘Always request’ or ‘Prefer not’ 3DS and then Save the rule.
