How do I create AVS risk rules?

In order to create custom rules using the Address Verification System (AVS) condition, navigate to your risk profile under Risk > Risk Profiles, then click on ‘Create new rule’.

You can then choose between creating a Pre-authorization or a Post-authorization risk rule. Select Post-authorization, as the AVS response can only be received after the issuer has authorized the transaction.

Next, pick a rule name. In this example we’re selecting the Block action and labeling the rule Fraud. You can also create Accept or Review rules based on your risk mitigation needs.

Next, specify the avsResponeCode variables you want the rule to trigger.
In the example above, we selected avsResponseCode 2, which will block transactions when neither the postal code nor address matches the issuer’s records. Consider adding additional conditions to your AVS rules to make them more precise.

Finally, click ‘Create new rule’ to enable it on your risk profile.
