What Shopper DNA is
ShopperDNA
Transaction Linking is a Premium feature of Protect that helps merchants identify good and bad shoppers by clustering together payments made or attempted by the same shopper, even as they change networks and identities.
Please note that the Shopper DNA visualization, as well as the custom fields and machine learning features leveraging its linking logic, are exclusively available to Protect Premium merchants. Access to these features requires the user to have the Merchant View Oil Splash role.
Merchants can interact with this feature when viewing the payment details page using the link for ShopperDNA in the Shopper details section.
Protect’s fraud machine learning model uses ShopperDNA to evaluate a payment’s risk level. Below are two ShopperDNA visuals to give you an insight as to how our machine learning model is evaluating transactions based on Shopper behavior.
On the right hand side you see what is considered to be a good Shopper. We are confident that these transactions were made by the same Shopper due to the attributes that overlap throughout their 39 transactions on your company account. This Shopper only used one card number, one email address and one telephone number.
On the left we have a visual of a bad shopper. Throughout their 299 total transactions they may have only used 2 shopper references (Shopper reference is the unique code that you send us to identify a shopper) but they used 281 distinct cards. Risk mitigation comes down to flagging abnormal Shopping behavior. So by utilizing ShopperDNA we can block transactions based on factors like spend velocity, refusal history and the number of distinct attributes.
