What is multifactor authentication (MFA) and how can I add it to my account?

Multifactor authentication

Multifactor authentication (MFA) helps keep your account safe by requiring multiple forms of verification in order to log in. This prevents unauthorized users from accessing your account, even if they have managed to obtain your username and password.

With multifactor authentication enabled, you must complete logging into your Customer Area by entering an authentication code provided on your mobile device. An authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Okta Verify, or Microsoft Authenticator) generates the code on your mobile device. Alternatively, you can receive the code via SMS.

MFA is required

MFA is the requirement by PCI DSS and we have to follow it to be compliant. By enabling MFA you make access to the Adyen platforms more secure.

Adding an MFA method to your account

  1. In your Customer Area, go to My profile.
  2. Under Multifactor authentication, select Add authentication.

Select your MFA method (Authenticator app or SMS authentication) and set it up.

Note: We recommend that each user has their own unique account, as sharing passwords and authentication methods can be a security risk.
