How to understand statuses in the payment lifecycle
This video explains what the different payment statuses in the payment lifecycle mean.
This video will help you understand some of the different statuses of the payment lifecycle. A processed payment goes through several stages before it reaches your account. Each stage has its own status.
The first status is Offer. During this stage the payment is handed over to a third party, typically an issuing bank, which manages the authentication process.
The second status is Received. This is when Adyen has sent the payment request to the issuing bank.
Once the payment is approved the status changes to Authorized. This means the funds are reserved in the payers account.
Then, Adyen requests the funds from the issuing bank and the status is changed to SentForSettle. Depending on the payment method and settings, the transaction might need to be captured before the status changes to SentForSettle.
The final status is Settled. This is when the payment is successful and Adyen receives the funds.
Your payout model determines when you receive the funds. Unsuccessful payments will show a different status.
Error means a problem occurred when communicating with the issuing bank. Error is a final status. If you want to proceed with the payment, you need to initiate the transaction again.
Refused means the request was rejected by the issuing bank or by Adyen. This happens when we receive a risk score higher than 99.
The status will change to Expired if the payment is in Authorised status for four weeks without being canceled or captured.
The Canceled status blocks the transfer of funds for authorized payments. You can only cancel a payment that has the status Received, Authorized, or Authorized Pending. Canceled payments can’t be undone.
These are the most common statuses. Visit docs.adyen.com or help.adyen.com to learn more about all statuses.
