How can I change the capture settings of my payment method?

Generally, all payment methods rely on the capture settings that can be controlled from your merchant account settings. These capture settings can be set to either manual, immediate (automatic), or specified within 1 to 7 days. Your merchant accounts capture settings are explained in more detail here.
Next to your merchant account settings, payment methods also have inherent capture settings, often referred to as either direct capture (SALE) or separate capture (AUTH). While it’s possible to change merchant account capture settings, it’s not possible to modify inherent capture settings of a payment method, with PayPal being the exception to this rule.

Alignment with Merchant Account Settings
Direct capture
Payment method is directly captured upon authorisation.
Payment method capture setting doesn’t follow your merchant account’s capture setting.
Separate Capture
The payment method’s authorisation step is separate from the capture step.
Payment method capture setting will work in sync with your merchant account’s capture setting
Generally, all card payment methods (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Diners, Discover, JCB, etc) are configured with separate capture. This means that any capture setting on your merchant account will directly control how these payment methods are captured.
Some payment methods (online banking payment methods such as Sofort, Giropay, and iDeal) can only be captured directly.
