How to transition to Protect
Important Actions for Premium Tier Users
If you're on the premium tier, you might need to take specific actions to adjust to the new risk engine.
Below is a breakdown of the necessary steps and how to handle your custom rules, lists, and configurations:
Action | Why | How To |
Update the fraud risk machine learning blocking threshold
| If you have persistent issues with fraudulent payments, you may wish to adjust your blocking threshold to block low risk and medium risk transactions. | Go to Revenue & risk > Risk Profiles > Select a risk profile > Select Risk Rules > Under the block section select Machine learning: fraud risk and ‘adjust blocking threshold’ |
Custom rules & lists are not automatically transferred to the new profile.
If custom lists are still relevant, ensure that you re-create them on the new profile.
| Go to Risk rules > Create new rule Create a new custom rule, and add conditions to the rule by selecting AND or OR. For each condition | |
The new engine uses actions instead of risk scores for manual reviews. | As before, any rule can be set to manual review as the outcome. When creating the rule, simply assign "review” as the action.
Default risk lists are enabled by default.
Rules like AVS, CVC/CVV, or Liability Shift status need to be updated. | Use the custom risk rule builder to configure AVS, CVC/CVV and Liability Shift logic
AVS, CVC/CVV mismatches or Liability Shift status need to be reconfigured
Old Dynamic 3DS rules based on risk scores no longer work. | Create custom risk rule with a Check for 3DS action and link to Dynamic 3DS |
As you transition, focus on maintaining the same level of performance while reducing complexity and simplifying rules. Many of the older score-based rules with low scores, as well as most velocity or ShopperDNA-based rules, can now be handled effectively by the new machine learning risk rules. If certain legacy rules had low scores or heavily relied on velocity concepts, consider whether they still need to be carried over.
Users are encouraged to explore the new features, adjusting machine learning model thresholds and fine-tuning risk profiles.
By taking these steps, you can ensure that your risk management strategy remains effective and tailored to your business needs while also leveraging the benefits of the latest version.
